![]() Missing Shut-Off Valve on Water Heater |
Part of the inspection process includes inspecting water heaters and plumbing components to see if they comply to "Accepted Trade Practices". The picture to the left shows a recent installation where the plumbing contractor forgot to install a shut-off valve at the cold water inlet for the water heater. The purpose of the shut-off valve here is that in the event of a plumbing emergency, there is a way to turn the water off at the water heater instead of shutting off the water to the entire property. Home inspectors operate under the umbrella of being an generalist and not a specialist. Not all trade jurisdictions require this component, but sometimes common sense dictates what should be done. |
